On May 14, 2026 the Reno City Council voted 6-1 for a temporary moratorium on new data center construction permits (through December 31, 2026 or until new rules are adopted) — the first Nevada local government to do so — with four pipeline projects exempted. On June 1, 2026 the Council voted 6-1 to extend the moratorium through August 31, 2027 (or until new regulations are adopted).
