Nevada, particularly the Reno-Sparks area, is a major data center market with state tax abatements for qualifying facilities. On May 14, 2026 the Reno City Council voted 6-1 for a temporary moratorium on new data center construction permits (through December 31, 2026 or until new rules are adopted) — the first Nevada local government to do so — with four pipeline projects exempted; final regulations are expected around June 1.
